The Town of Walla Walla is requesting a Substantial Coastal Development Permit for the construction of the 1st Avenue Plaza project. 1st Avenue Plaza will become a permanent public gathering space which will include, but not be limited to: new pedestrian-friendly paving in the area of ââthe plaza between Main and the alley south of Main; possible connections to public services to support community events taking place in the square (electricity / gas); repaving / resurfacing of the southern half of the islet; incorporating / adding mobile and cost-conscious landscaping to provide shade during summer days, but allow for various uses / configurations of the place; reconfiguration of on-street parking on First Avenue south of the plaza (alley to Alder Street) to maximize available parking, including spaces accessible by ADA; and the modification of the traffic lights at Main Street and First Avenue to improve accessibility for the visually impaired (across Main Street).
