Cyberabad Police Receive Complaint for Corporate Email Hacking and Money Transfer


Hyderabad: Cyberabad Police received a corporate email hacking complaint in which the hacker collected the company’s database, hacked email credentials and intercepted them and transferred funds.

The complaint was lodged by Mr. A. Padmanabha Rao, Financial Controller, Volta-Impex Pvt. Ltd, Kondapur, which exports engineering products to the West African region.

Mr Rao told police that a certain Tamil Vannan, financial controller of Diamond Cement in Mali, a West African country, used to communicate with VoltaImpex regarding the export of goods.

Mr Rao said that Mr Vannan received an email from VoltaImpex employee Murali Krishna, whose email id is [email protected] in December of last year to file the pending payments in their company’s bank account at Andhra Bank, SR Nagar, Hyderabad.

Mr Rao said that in mid-January 2019, Mr Vannan received a letter from a fake email id, [email protected], with new bank details for payment.

“On February 20, Diamond Cement donated $ 1,259,500.50. VoltaImpex official email id received a fake SWIFT copy of a fake email id: [email protected], showing VoltaImpex Andhra Bank account details as beneficiary. As the installment was not credited to their account, they contacted Diamond Cements and were told they had transferred the funds to Bank of America. Later, VoltaIm-pex learned that they had been deceived and we filed a complaint. The matter is under investigation, ”said the complainant.
